Combined missions in Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania

CEBioS is associated with the RUBICOM project, run by the University of Antwerp and the University of Burundi and financed by VLIR-UOS. This project is looking at biodiversity around the Rusizi river, and in particular the conflicts between human fauna and hippopotamuses, as well as their role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. An initial launch workshop was held in March 2024, and in July a workshop will be held with stakeholders to discuss these issues. CEBioS is contributing its expertise in managing discussions between several stakeholders and in analysing how these stakeholders perceive biodiversity.

Tania D’haijère then travelled to Rwanda to represent SECORES, which is holding a presentation session with researchers and academics from Burundi, Benin, Rwanda and Uganda on socio-ecological resilience at the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation conference, from 14 to 18 July in Kigali.

She then goes on to present CEBioS and the work that took place in Tanzania, with EVAMAB and Vlir-uos, at the NM-AIST 2024 International scientific conference. She will then continue on to Saa-dani to meet the NGO SANA and then the ZACORES project, which was set up by Linda Bahari with the support of Anne Laudisoit, a researcher attached to CEBioS.

CEBioS est associé au projet RUBICOM, réalisé par l’Université d’Anvers et l’Université du Burundi et financé par VLIR-UOS. Ce projet s’intéresse à la biodiversité autour du fleuve Rusizi, et particulièrement aux conflits homme-faune avec les hippopotames, ainsi qu’à leur rôle dans le maintien d’un écosystème sain. Un premier atelier de lancement a eu lieu en mars 2024, et en juillet aura lieu l’atelier de rencontre avec les parties prenantes pour discuter de ces questions. CEBioS y apporte son expertise dans la modération de discussions entre plusieurs parties prenantes et dans les analyses de perception de la biodiversité par ces parties prenantes.

Tania D’haijère va ensuite au Rwanda pour représenter SECORES, qui a une session de présentations avec des chercheurs et universitaires du Burundi, Bénin, Rwanda et Uganda sur la résilience socio-écologique à la conférence de l’Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation, du 14 au 18 juillet à Kigali.

Elle continue ensuite pour présenter CEBioS et les travaux qui ont eu lieux en Tanzanie, avec EVAMAB et le Vlir-uos, à la conférence NM-AIST 2024 International scientific conference. Elle continuera vers Saa-dani pour rencontrer l’ONG SANA, puis le Projet ZACORES qui a été mis en euvre par Linda Bahari avec l’appui d’Anne Laudisoit, chercheuse attachée au CEBioS.
