Joint Meeting between CEBioS and CETAF

On 5 December 2024, CEBioS and CETAF (Consortium of European Taxonomic Facilities) held a meeting to discuss shared objectives and explore avenues for enhanced collaboration. The meeting was an important step toward uniting efforts to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

CETAF is our network of European natural sciences institutions, including museums and botanical gardens. The organization fosters taxonomic research and advocates for the critical role of taxonomy in understanding and preserving biodiversity.

The session began with a roundtable introduction, allowing participants to share their expertise and ongoing projects. This exchange highlighted the diverse range of knowledge present within the group, from taxonomic research to policy-oriented biodiversity initiatives.

Key points of discussion included:

• Shared Goals: CETAF and the CEBioS team of RBINS presented their roles and missions in enhancing biodiversity research and promoting taxonomy.
• Knowledge Exchange: Participants discussed recent publications, leaflets and reports
• Future Collaborations: The meeting laid the groundwork for joint projects, leveraging the strengths of CEBioS and CETAF to achieve greater impact.

The meeting concluded with a shared understanding of the importance of collaboration in addressing global biodiversity and taxonomic challenges. Both teams expressed enthusiasm for organizing potential future uptake meetings, during which they plan to share their respective agendas of interesting taxonomic events.
