CEBioS and RBINS in Belgian Presidency delegation at SBSTTA-26 and SBI-4

The twenty-sixth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 26) is being held from 13 to 18 May 2024, back-to-back with the fourth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI 4), from 21 to 29 May 2024, and is hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme, in Nairobi, Kenya.

Han de Koeijer, Anne-Julie Rochette and Pierre Huybrechts are part of the belgian delegation, headed by Ines Verleye from the FPS Public Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment.

Following items are led and/or supported by CEBioS colleagues:

• SBSTTA-26 agenda item 3: Monitoring framework for the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework
• SBSTTA-26 agenda item 4: Scientific and technical needs to support the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework
• SBSTTA-26 agenda item 9: Biodiversity & Health
• SBI-4 agenda item 2: Review of implementation: progress in national target setting and the updating of national biodiversity strategies and action plans.
• SBI-4 agenda item 3: Mechanisms for planning, monitoring, reporting and review.
• SBI-4 agenda item 5: Capacity-building and development, technical and scientific cooperation, clearing-house mechanism and knowledge management under the Convention and its Protocols
• SBI-4 agenda item 6: Communication.

CEBioS is also taking the opportunity to meet its partner delegations in Nairobi, such as those from Morocco, Benin, DRCongo and Burundi, with whom it shares a wide range of projects.

The BE delegation also includes RBINS colleagues : Hendrik Segers, Marie Baeckelandt and Jorge Ventocilla from the CBD-NFP, Divija JATAVALLABHULA (DJ) from the Belgian Biodiversity Platform.
